Wire & Bushings

What is a wire and bushing suspension system?

A wire and bushing hanging system is a versatile and flexible system for hanging paintings, photos, posters, and other wall decorations. The system consists of strong wires, usually made of stainless steel or Perlon, which are combined with special bushings as attachment points. The bushings act as clamps or connectors that hold the wire firmly in place.

This type of hanging system offers an elegant and minimalist solution where the wire is virtually invisible against the background. The major advantage is its flexibility: you can easily move objects or adjust the height without drilling new holes. The systems are suitable for various weights, from light photos to heavier artworks.

How does it work?

The principle of a suspension system with wire and bushings is simple yet effective. The wire is attached at one end to a rail, hook, or other mounting point on the wall or ceiling. The bushings are clamped onto the wire and keep it under tension. Hooks can then be attached to the bushings to hang objects.

The bushings are designed to clamp the wire securely while remaining adjustable. By releasing the clamp, you can slide the position of the bushing along the wire. This allows you to adjust the height of your suspended objects without having to reinstall the entire system. Some systems use a twist-lock mechanism where you turn the bushing to secure it.

Types and variants

There are various versions of suspension systems with wire and bushings available:

• Perlon wire with bushings : Transparent plastic wire that is virtually invisible, ideal for a discreet suspension.
• Steel wire with bushings : Stronger than perlon, suitable for heavier objects up to 20 kg per wire.
• Adjustable bushings : With various clamping techniques such as twist lock or sliding clamp for easy height adjustment
• Complete suspension kits : Includes all necessary parts such as wires, bushings, hooks, and mounting hardware

The choice between these variants depends on the weight of your objects, the desired visibility, and the ease of use you are looking for.

Specifications and features

For suspension systems with wire and bushings, various technical specifications are important. The load capacity varies by wire type: Perlon wires typically carry up to 15 kg, while steel wires can handle up to 20 kg or more. The wire thickness typically ranges between 1.5 and 2.0 mm for Perlon and 1.0 to 1.5 mm for steel wire.

The bushings are available in various designs, often made of metal or high-quality plastic. They feature a special clamping construction that holds the wire securely without damaging it. Some bushings are equipped with an integrated hook, while other models require separate hooks. The finish ranges from silver to white or black, matching various interior styles.

What do you look for when making your choice?

Choosing the right hanging system with wire and bushings requires attention to several important factors. The total weight of the objects to be hung is crucial – ensure that the chosen system has sufficient load capacity with a safety margin. Steel wire is recommended for heavy paintings, while Perlon wire is perfect for lighter works.

The system's mounting method must match your wall or ceiling type. Some systems require a rail, while others can be attached directly to a hook. The desired flexibility also plays a role: how often do you want to change the setup? Systems with easily adjustable bushings offer more freedom for regular rearrangement.

Assembly and installation

The installation of a suspension system with wires and bushings can be done in several ways. With rail mounting, you first attach a rail to the wall or ceiling, from which you then hang the wires. This method offers maximum flexibility because you can add or move wires along the rail.

With direct mounting, you attach the wires directly to hooks in the wall or ceiling. This is a simpler solution for fixed suspension points. For some systems, click mounting is possible, where components click together without tools. With all mounting methods, it is important to cut the wire to the correct length and firmly clamp the bushings for secure suspension.
