Panel Cams

The link between panel and ceiling

A panel ridge is the attachment point mounted to the panel itself. From this ridge, you hang the panel on cables, rods, or rails. The choice of a specific type of ridge depends on several factors: the panel material, the weight, the desired appearance, and whether you want to be able to move or dismantle the panel later.

At Alle-Ophangsystemen.nl you will find panel cams from specialized brands such as , , and Each brand has developed its own systems that differ in mounting method and area of application. Below you can read about the available options and when it is best to use each type.

Screw mounting: the classic choice

Screw fastening remains the most commonly used method for panel mounting. You screw the lug directly into the panel or attach it to the rear with the supplied screws. This provides a secure, permanent connection that can withstand high loads.

Screw mounting is particularly suitable for:

• Heavier acoustic panels
• LED panels that do not need to be moved regularly
• Situations where vibrations or air currents occur
• Projects where maximum load-bearing capacity is required

The disadvantage is that you have to make holes in the panel. With some materials, such as certain acoustic absorbers, this is not a problem. However, with fragile or visible surfaces, this may be less desirable.

Click mounting: fast and repositionable

Click mounting systems, also known as snap-in fasteners, operate without tools. The cam clicks into place in a pre-assembled profile or directly onto the suspension cable. This makes installation significantly faster, especially with larger numbers of panels.

When do you choose click mounting?

This method is ideal in environments where flexibility is important. Think of office spaces where the layout changes regularly, or showrooms where panels are swapped seasonally. Click mounting is also frequently seen in LED panel suspension systems: it simplifies maintenance and potential replacement.

Please pay attention to the maximum load. Click systems are generally designed for lighter to medium-weight panels. For very heavy applications, screw fastening remains more reliable.

Panel clamps

Clamps offer a solution when you do not want to or cannot drill through the panel yourself. The clamp grips the edge of the panel, forming the hanging point. This works perfectly with panels that have a sleek, straight edge and sufficient thickness.

Panel clamps are commonly found on glass panels, Dibond sheets, and some acoustic wall elements. The visibility of the clamp varies by model: some are deliberately minimalist in design, while others are purely functional.

Magnetic mounting

Magnetic mounting is the fastest way to hang and remove panels. You mount a metal counterplate to the ceiling or suspension structure, and the magnetic lug on the panel clicks onto it.

This method does require panels that are light enough. The holding force of magnets is limited, and with heavier panels, there is a risk that they will come loose due to vibrations or temperature changes. However, magnetic ceiling mounting works excellently for lightweight acoustic panels or decorative elements.

Loop mounting and panel hooks

With loop mounting, a flexible loop is attached to the panel, which is then hung over a rail or cable. Panel hooks work similarly: a hook on the panel engages with a suspension point.

Applications

Loop hangers and hooks are practical when you want to be able to position panels at varying heights. The loop or hook simply slides over the cable, after which you set the desired height. This is often seen in exhibitions, galleries, and flexible office environments where hanging acoustic panels is a regularly recurring task.

Panel cams and screw-in lugs

Panel cams are compact, rotatable mounting points that are recessed into the panel. By rotating a quarter turn, the cam locks onto the suspension cable or rod. This system combines the sturdiness of screw mounting with the ease of quick removal and installation.

Screw-in lugs are a variant where the lug is screwed directly into the panel material, similar to a wood screw. This works well with MDF, plywood, and other wood-like materials that offer sufficient grip.

The right lug for your application

The choice of a panel ridge depends on your specific situation. An installer who needs to mount dozens of LED panels benefits from a quick click system. A project designer hanging acoustic panels in a prestigious space might opt for invisible screw fastening. And for temporary setups, magnetic mounting or a loop system offers the flexibility you need.
